On hold but making it work

Plan B was to have our class meet on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss readings and view a video or two. It's a class, after all, not just a trip. However, the University cancelled classes today due to the cold.  (A clear sign to me that we've been influenced by recent climate change - 20 years ago no one would have thought that 10 below was reason to close schools! It's Minnesota! Today's temps were not that out of the ordinary).  So on to plan C.

Instead we are having "online" classes today and tomorrow, where the assignments are to read the first three chapters from the Joseph Barndt text, Understanding and Dismantling Racism, and view several streaming videos. Students are then responding to questions in an online discussion forum through our online course management system - D2L.  Maybe it's better this way - rather than fitting some of the reading in once we're in Namibia. 

Our travel arrangements are not ideal but will get us there. We are on 3 different flights from Minneapolis to Newark, NJ on Thursday. We spend the night at a Sheraton hotel near JFK airport and will all be together for the Friday morning flight from JFK to Johannesburg. We arrive on Saturday morning in time to catch a flight to Windhoek, Namibia.

I had a bit of concern when seeing the first round of flight info - I saw I was on the JFK to Johannesburg flight but didn't see one getting me to Newark or JFK!!  That got fixed (but I get to be on the 5:50 am flight while most of the group is flying out at 10:35 am and two people are on a 2:25 pm flight).
